  • Dr. Arora has over 36 years of teaching experience. He has taught a wide range of subjects at both the undergraduate and post graduate levels.
  • He has taught a wide range of subjects at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including Geomatics Engineering, Remote Sensing, Engineering Surveying, Digital Image Processing, and Computer Programming (C, C++, and FORTRAN).

Research Contributions

Pioneering Work and Practical Application

  • Dr. Arora was among the first to do pioneer work in extracting accurate land cover information from remote sensing data using Machine Learning techniques, particularly neuro-fuzzy classification and super-resolution mapping for mixed pixels. This is a fundamental contribution to the field.

  • Developed and released a software for landslide hazard and risk assessment, which was also used for developing a model for landslide-safe route planning in the Himalayas. This has direct, life-saving applications. More Info

  • Developed methods for snow cover extraction and depth estimation from remote sensing data that are used at an operational level by the Snow and Avalanche Establishment (SASE), a DRDO lab.

Academic Collaboration & Output

  • Authored over 271 research papers, including 114 in peer-reviewed journals and 138 in conferences, and 19 book chapters. This volume of work demonstrates a prolific and sustained research career.

  • The Google Scholar record shows over 9,200 citations, an h-index of 43, and an i-10 index of 86. These metrics are a strong indicator of the broad influence and high quality of the research.

  • Supervised a significant number of graduate students, including 26 Ph.D. theses and 56 master’s theses. This shows a major contribution to the development of the next generation of researchers.

Applied Research and Industry Consultancy

  • Executed 18 sponsored research projects with a total outlay of over INR 3.00 Crores.

  • Completed 28 industrial consultancy projects with an outlay of over INR 6.00 Crores, including work for major organizations like Indian Railways on prestigious projects like the Rishikesh-Karna Prayag Railway Line. This demonstrates the direct, practical value of the research to industry and government.
